I am Richard Weiss.  My wife and I were born and raised Americans but at the age of 30 moved abroad, first to England then later to Switzerland.  We did not leave the US as a conscious act of permanent emigration, rather just following opportunities for work, travel and adventure.  As our life developed in our new homeland(s), and the years sailed by, we ended up becoming naturalised in each county in course.  

The end result is a lifestyle less attached to "place" in the sense of a true homeland, but more attachment to our feeling of connection with different countries, cultures and people.  I guess you could say that the lens through which we look at the world has evolved rather than been replaced.
